Permeability Characterization

Resin flow through reinforcement plays a crucial role in manufacturing processes, and can be assumed as a flow through porous medium;
Resin flow can be described by Darcy's law;
Permeability and viscosity are used in mold fill analysis.

Fluid Flow Setup for Measurement of Permeability

New Gas Flow Method For Determination of Preform Permeability
A new method using gas flow was developed for measuring permeability in reinforcement preforms used in liquid injection molding.
The theoretical foundation of the method was established.
The method was tested experimentally and verified by comparison with results from the conventional liquid flow method.
The gas flow method has the advantages that it is not hindered by edge effects and mold deformation and can be used directly in the real mold prior to resin injection.
